Safety and Health Assistant (C381-09)

Looking for a student that can commit to 40 hours a week during the summer and remain working for 20 hours a week during the school year. During the school year be able to work during the main work hours of 8-5 pm. This position will coordinate the chemical safety data sheet (SDS) inventory, will be primarily responsible for updating and maintaining this database. The work will involve doing periodic calibration of oxygen monitoring systems, checks on AEDs, crane-use logs and other equipment under the purview of the Safety office. Will perform sampling for chemical and physical hazards and write reports.

This position will help maintain the Emergency Response program, helping hold drills and provide training for personnel. Work may include providing health and safety training to USURF employees. This position is involved in logging in and tracking hazardous waste. Acts in a backup role for emergency response, during regular hours as well as after-hours.

The successful applicant will have good communication skills and be open to meeting new people throughout the organization to enhance the safety and health culture. Looking for someone who is observant and will engage in correcting unsafe behavior. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer skills is needed.
HAZWOPER certification is a plus. Must be a US Citizen, and a student in the USU Industrial Hygiene program.

Employment will begin in May.
